Sherwood Colliery Swimming Club is Swim21 accredited.
What is Swim 21 Accreditation?
Swim 21 Accreditation is a ‘quality mark’. It recognises nationally and regionally the clubs that are committed to providing safe, effective and quality services for the benefit of their members. Clubs work steadily towards the attainment of a series of outcomes, all of which are seen as essential if the right level of support is to be provided at each stage of an athlete’s development.
What does Swim 21 involve?
Swim 21 is a three stage process.
- First, clubs audit their current position against a series of questions that are linked to nationally determined outcomes of good practice;
- Then, based on their findings, they produce an Improvement plan that details the steps they need to take to address the gaps in their provision;
- Finally, when they feel these have been addressed and they have achieved the outcomes, they then apply to become an ASA Swim 21 Accredited Club by contacting their Regional Development officer.
Achievement of Swim 21 Accreditation means that clubs will automatically be awarded Sport England’s Clubmark thereby ensuring that ‘aquatic clubs receive equal status with other sports clubs in the community.
Sherwood Colliery Swimming Club and Swim 21
S.C.S.C. achieved Swim 21 Silver Awards in both Skill Development and Teaching in February 2004. The award lasts for four years with annual reviews by the ASA to ensure ongoing compliance.
The scheme has now been reviewed nationally and a new standard has recently been implemented. It is under this scheme that Sherwood will need to be re-accredited in February 2008. Work has already commenced on working towards this.
If anyone has any further questions or is interesting in helping the Club retain its Accreditation please contact Liz Weston at the pool on training evenings.
